FUNERAL DIRECTORS LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY (FDLIC)

Our History

Over the past several years, the pre-need funeral industry has undergone significant, fundamental changes. The progression from burial insurance to trust-funded pre-need funeral plans to insurance-funded prepaid funeral programs has led to a complicated regulatory environment and a confused marketplace. However, FDLIC has realized substantial growth by seeing opportunity where others have seen adversity.

FDLIC began as a vision in the minds of several funeral directors who were concerned with the fair and proper representation of prepaid funerals within their communities. In addition, they were concerned about the long-term effect of prepaid funeral son the funeral home itself (when the pre-need becomes at-need). Thus, these funeral directors decided that one way to achieve the perfect prepaid funeral program was to start their own company.

By 1981, these pioneers had converted a burial insurance company into a legal reserve life insurance company; and developed a set of products to sell through their respective funeral homes. However, no real sales and marketing program was established until 1986.

During 1986, new management was brought in and an emphasis on sales and marketing was created. With extraordinary funeral service as our basic foundation, we re-engineered our products and developed a sales organization structure, which continues today. Since 1986, FDLIC has expanded far beyond the expectations of the original founders. In fact, FDLIC was selected as one of the 500 fastest growing, privately-held companies in the United States for 1990, as determined by INC. Magazine.

Solutions That Produce Proven Results

Today, the original founders of FDLIC remain integrally involved with the Company as members of the Board of Directors. Joining them on the Board are 13 other funeral service professionals. With their leadership, we remain committed to the integrity of the funeral profession and to the entrepreneurial spirit which started this Company. Thus, we will continue to make improvements in order to ensure that each funeral home client and contract holder is better served and protected.
